When several people share someone’s care, a very common everyday question comes up: «who is keeping watch right now?». If it isn’t clear, two people may end up handling the same thing at once, or nobody is paying attention because each one thought someone else was on it. Turns exist precisely to avoid that: at any moment there is one single active caregiver — the person in charge right now — and that turn is passed from one person to another with a single tap, no calls or messages needed. That way the whole group always knows whose turn it is.
And if you care on your own, you don’t need to worry about any of this: the turn will simply always be yours, and the screen will just remind you of it.
The turn on the Today screen
You don’t have to go looking for who is in charge: you see it the moment you open the app. In Today — the first screen, the one that appears when you come in — there’s a turn banner (a clearly visible strip at the top) that tells you at a glance who is in charge right now.
Look at the banner
Depending on who has the turn, the banner changes colour and message so you understand it instantly, without much reading:
- «You · Active caregiver» (on green) when the turn is yours: it’s your time to keep watch.
- The person’s name and photo, when another caregiver in the group is in charge. That way you know who to alert if something comes up.
- «No turn assigned» (on amber) when nobody is in charge at this moment. The amber colour is a gentle nudge for someone to take over.
To manage the turn, simply tap the banner : there you can pass it or take it.
Passing or taking the turn
Tapping the banner opens the «Turns» screen, which shows you who has the turn at this moment and, below, the actions available to you. They don’t all appear at once: the app only shows you the ones that make sense in your situation, to keep things simple.
Take the turn
If someone else has the turn and you’re the one about to take charge (for example, «I’m home now, I’m taking over from my colleague»), tap «Take turn». From that moment on, you become the active caregiver, and the rest of the group sees it reflected instantly. You need permission to do it; if you don’t have it, the button won’t appear.
Pass it to someone
If right now the active caregiver is you (or you’re the group’s organizer), you’ll see the list of members and, next to each name, the «Pass turn» option to hand it to that person. It’s what you’ll do when your stretch of care ends and you want to leave someone in charge: «I’m off, Megan is up next». There’s no need to give notice anywhere else: when you pass the turn, the app takes care of letting people know.
Scheduling the next turn (Pro)
Sometimes you already know in advance how the day will go: «my brother takes over from me at six this evening». With the Pro plan, the active caregiver can leave it stated ahead of time — to whom and at what time the turn will pass — so it stays as a reminder visible to the whole group, and nobody loses track.
Say to whom and when
Inside «Schedule next turn» you only have to fill in two things: «To whom?» (the person who will take over) and «What time?». When you have it, tap «Save». If plans change later, you can «Update» the time or the name, or «Clear» the notice if it’s no longer needed. Once saved, it appears in the Today banner as «Next: …», so the whole group keeps it in mind.
