The Today screen

Your day at a glance: the active turn, the timeline of doses, appointments and tasks, and the button to add or scan.

Today is CarePilot’s main screen, the first one that appears as soon as you open the app. It’s designed so that, the moment you look at it, you know what needs your attention today without having to search for anything: who is in charge of the care right now, the medication doses to be given, the medical appointments, the day’s tasks and a button to write down new things or scan documents. It’s the screen where you’ll spend most of your time, so there’s no need to memorize it: with everyday use it will come naturally.

The idea behind it is reassuring: you don’t have to remember everything yourself. The Today screen keeps reminding you and shows you, at a glance, what’s done and what’s still to do.

The header

At the very top, the first thing you see is the name of the active group (the care group you’re working in right now) and a greeting. This confirms you’re in the right place before you start touching anything. If you care within several groups at once — for example, one for your mother and another for a neighbour you also help out — tap the name expand_more to switch from one to the other so that everything you see belongs to that group.

On the right, always visible, is the SOS button emergency: it’s the quick access to the emergency screen, in case things ever take a turn for the worse and you need to alert someone fast. It’s right there at hand at any moment, so you don’t have to go hunting for it in a hurry just when you need it most (we explain it in depth in the SOS guide).

The turn: who is in charge

Right below the greeting you’ll see the turn banner, a strip that tells you which caregiver is in charge at this moment. It serves a very practical purpose when several people share the care: the whole group knows, without having to ask or phone around, who is looking after things now. That way nobody assumes «someone else will go» and no dose or task is left in no man’s land.

1

See who has the turn

At a single glance you’ll know who is in charge, depending on what the banner shows:

  • If it’s you, you’ll see «You» with the «Active caregiver» label on a green background. It’s the signal that, right now, it’s your turn to keep an eye on things.
  • If someone else has it, you’ll see their name and photo, so you know who to alert if anything comes up.
  • If nobody is assigned, you’ll see «No turn assigned» on an amber background. It’s fine for it to appear this way; it’s just a notice that it would be good for someone to take over.

Pass or take the turn

When you start keeping watch, or when you hand it over to someone else («I’m off to do the shopping, you’re in charge now»), tap the banner swap_horiz to open turn management and pass it or take it. Don’t worry about getting it wrong: it’s just tapping and choosing, and it can always be changed again. The good thing is that this way there’s a record of who took charge at every moment, with no arguments of «I thought it was you». You’ll see it step by step in the Turns guide.

What’s next and the state of the day

So nothing slips past you, if you have something pending later on, the «Next» notice appears with the next dose, appointment or task and how long until it (for example, «In 25 min»). It’s like having someone whisper in your ear «careful, the eight o’clock pill is coming up soon», so you’re ready in time and it doesn’t catch you off guard.

Below that notice, some status chips sum up the whole day in one go, each with its own colour so you can tell them apart without reading: how many things are overdue (in red, what’s past its time and worth checking), pending (in amber, what’s still to be done) and completed (in green, out of the day’s total). If you see almost everything in green, you’re doing fine; if something is in red, don’t be alarmed, it just means it needs a look.

Timeline or Summary

The Today screen lets you see the day in two different ways, depending on what feels most comfortable at any given moment. To switch from one to the other, use the selector in the upper area:

1

Choose how to view the day

Neither option is better than the other: try both and keep the one that makes things clearest for you. You can switch between them whenever you like.

  • schedule «Timeline» — shows you the whole day hour by hour, in order, with a «NOW» line marking the moment you’re in. It’s the ideal view for knowing «what’s due now and what comes next?».
  • pie_chart «Summary» — shows you a progress ring with the percentage already completed and two separate lists: what’s still pending and what’s already done. It’s the ideal view for seeing at a glance how the day is going overall, without so much detail.

The day’s timeline

In the Timeline view, every dose, appointment or task appears as a card placed at its corresponding time, from top to bottom as the day goes on. Each card shows its icon according to type (so you can tell a pill from an appointment at a glance), the title, the time and, very importantly, its status, which is how that particular item is going:

1

Mark something as done

Every time you give a medication or finish a task («I’ve given the morning pill», «we’re back from the walk»), tap «Mark as done» check_circle on its card. It’s the most important gesture of the day-to-day, because it’s what keeps the whole group informed without anyone having to report in by phone.

What if you slip up and mark the wrong thing? Don’t fret: tap «Undo» undo and the card goes back to pending, as if nothing happened. Besides, every time you mark something it gets recorded who did it and at what time, visible to the whole group. So if another caregiver comes in later, they know that dose has already been given and won’t risk repeating it.

Open the detail

If you want to know more about a particular card — the full times, the notes someone left, the photo of the medication… — tap the body of the card (not the mark button, but the rest) and its full detail will open. From there you can also edit or manage it, always according to the permissions you have in the group.

Adding things (and scanning with AI)

When you need to write down something new for the day — a pill the doctor just prescribed, an appointment given over the phone, a pharmacy expense… — the add button at the bottom right opens the «Add» screen, which is where everything gets recorded. There’s no need to memorize where each type goes: everything starts from that same button.

1

Scan a document with AI

If what you want to write down is on paper — a prescription, an appointment letter, a pharmacy receipt — there’s no need to copy it by hand. Tap «Scan» document_scanner, take a photo of the document and the app itself, with the help of artificial intelligence, recognizes what it is and fills in the data for you. It’s the fast lane for anyone who doesn’t want to wrestle with typing. It recognizes prescriptions, appointments, receipts and reports. You’ll see it in depth in the Scan with AI guide.

Or add manually

If you prefer to type it yourself, or what you want to note down isn’t on any paper, below you have one card for each type of thing you can record. Just tap the one that applies:

  • medication «Dose» — a medication, that is, a pill, syrup or similar.
  • event «Appointment» — a medical appointment.
  • task_alt «Task» — a non-medical care task (washing up, a meal, a walk…).
  • edit_note «Note» — a quick note to leave something in writing for the group.
  • attach_money «Expense» — an expense, to keep track of the care finances.

You may not see all of them: only the ones your role has permission to create appear, so if one is missing it’s not a glitch. Each form is explained calmly in its own guide (Routines, Notes, Expenses…).

When there is nothing

Sometimes you’ll open the screen and see no cards. Don’t worry, it’s not broken: it just means there’s nothing to show at that moment. It can happen in two situations, and each one tells you so with a clear message:
