The AI scanner is one of the biggest time-savers in CarePilot. The idea is very simple: instead of copying by hand what a piece of paper says — a doctor’s prescription, an appointment letter, the pharmacy receipt or a report — you take a photo of it and the app, with the help of artificial intelligence, recognizes what it is and fills in the data for you. You just take a look, correct anything that didn’t come out right, and save.
It’s designed precisely for anyone who doesn’t want to wrestle with typing. It recognizes four types of document: «Prescriptions», «Appointments», «Receipts» and «Reports», and depending on what it is, it turns it into a medication dose, an appointment, an expense or a saved document.
Where it is and how to start
You don’t have to look for it in any hidden menu: the scanner opens from the same place where everything else is added.
Open the scanner
Tap the button (bottom right of the «Today» screen) and at the very top you’ll see the «AI Scanner» block with the «Scan» button . Tap it to begin. Just below, it reminds you what it can recognize — «Prescriptions», «Appointments», «Receipts» and «Reports» — and how many scans you have left.
Take the photo of the document
When you open the scanner, the camera turns on. Place the document on a flat, well-lit surface and frame it within the screen: the app detects the edges of the paper by itself and highlights it.
Frame and capture
When the scanner opens, «Auto capture» is on, and for most documents it’s the best option. It works like this: the artificial intelligence looks for the edges of the document (or of the block of text) and places a frame that adjusts to them; as soon as it fits well and you hold the phone steady, it takes the shot by itself and, along the way, straightens the image and corrects the angle and framing so the document comes out straight and as readable as possible. You only have to keep a steady hand («Hold still», it tells you).
- «Auto capture» (on by default) — the app takes the photo for you as soon as the frame fits the document.
- «Manual» — if you’d rather decide the moment yourself, or if with some document the frame just won’t settle, switch to manual and shoot with the round button in the centre when it looks right.
Already have the photo? Import it
Sometimes the photo of the paper is already on your phone — because someone sent it to you on WhatsApp or you took it earlier. In that case you don’t need to photograph it again.
Import from the gallery, add pages and adjust
The gallery button is to the left of the round shutter button: tap it to choose a photo you already have on your phone (for example, the one you took earlier with the normal camera) instead of photographing on the spot.
If the document has several pages — a multi-sheet report, for example — use the button to keep adding sheets one after another; they’ll be saved together as a single document.
Before processing, you can fine-tune the image with the options below:
- «Crop» to adjust the edges and keep just the document.
- «Enhance» and «Filters» so the text reads better (more contrast, black and white…).
When it looks good to you, continue so the AI can process it.
Review the data the AI has filled in
This is the important part, and that’s why we insist: the AI reads the paper and fills in the data for you, but the final word is always yours.
Wait a few seconds while it analyzes
When you continue, the app sends the photo to the artificial intelligence and for a few seconds you’ll see the «Analyzing with AI» screen («Almost done, preparing the result…»). It’s normal for it to take a moment: it’s reading the document and sorting the data. You don’t need to touch anything; as soon as it finishes, it opens the form already filled in with what it has read.
Check and correct before saving
You’ll see a notice reminding you: «Data was extracted automatically. Review and correct it before saving.» Go over each field (the medication name, the dosage, the times, the appointment date…) and, if something isn’t quite exact, tap it and correct it like in any form. When it’s right, tap «Add».
If one paper contains several things — for example, a prescription with three medications — the app tells you so («Medication 1 of 3») and walks you through them one by one: you review and save the first, and it takes you to the next automatically. That way nothing goes unrecorded.
How many scans you can do
Scanning with AI has a cost behind the scenes, so each plan includes a certain number of scans. A bar inside the scanner tells you at all times how many you have left (for example, «0 of 3 scans (free trial)»), so it doesn’t catch you by surprise:
