About CarePilot
What is CarePilot?
It’s an app to organise and coordinate the care of an elderly or dependent person when there are many things to keep track of at once. Instead of keeping everything in your head or on loose bits of paper, it brings together in one place the medication, appointments, daily tasks, expenses, notes and turns. And if several people share the care, here’s the best part: anything one person writes down is seen by the others instantly, so the whole group stays up to date without having to ring each other to pass things on.
Who is it for?
For anyone who cares for someone, whatever their situation. It works for family members who share the care between them, for professional caregivers (a hired carer, a team taking turns…) and also for a single person who simply wants to stay better organised on their own. You don’t need to be family or be several people: if you care for someone on your own, CarePilot serves you just as well to make sure nothing is forgotten.
Does it replace the doctor?
No, and it’s important to be clear about this. CarePilot is not a medical service and gives no clinical advice: it’s a tool to organise day-to-day care, not to decide treatments or diagnose anything. It helps you remember the pill or the appointment, but which pill and what it’s for is always the doctor’s decision. If you have any health concerns, consult a healthcare professional.
Privacy and security
Who can see my data?
Only the people in your group, no one else. And we say this with complete confidence because your information travels end-to-end encrypted: it’s stored in scrambled form so that neither CarePilot, nor Google, nor anyone outside can read what you write. Your privacy and that of the person you care for are protected at the highest level.
What happens if I change phones?
Nothing, as long as you have your PIN: install CarePilot on the new phone, sign in with your usual email and password, and the app will ask you for the PIN to unlock your groups. In no time everything will be back —routines, notes, expenses, documents— exactly as you left it. And if you don’t remember the PIN but saved your backup code, you can recover everything with that too. The step-by-step, with screenshots, is in Account and privacy.
What happens if I lose my PIN?
Don’t panic: if you generated your backup code, you use it to get back in and recover access. That said, we have to be honest with you: if you forgot your PIN and never got around to generating that code, there is no way to recover your encrypted data, because that very protection is what stops anyone else from opening it. That’s why we insist so much on creating the code in time. How to do it, step by step, is in Account and privacy.
Does it work offline?
Yes, and it’s very handy day to day (at the clinic with no signal, in a basement, out in the countryside…). You can look up what you have and jot down new things even with no internet at that moment. CarePilot saves what you do and syncs it by itself as soon as the phone is back online, without you having to do anything. Nothing gets lost for being offline.
Plans and pricing
Is it free?
Yes. CarePilot has a Free plan that is already complete and enough for many people: you can care and coordinate without paying anything. What the paid plans, Plus and Pro, do is raise the limits (more groups, more saved routines, encrypted photos of receipts, more themes for the app…) and add a few handy extras like expense analysis or PDF export. You decide whether the upgrade is worth it for you; you’ll find it all compared in Settings.
How many languages is it available in?
6 languages. If you’re more comfortable using the app in another language, you can switch whenever you like from Settings → Preferences → Language (Settings is the last tab in the bottom bar).
Everyday use
How do I invite someone else?
By sharing an invite code that you generate from the Group tab. The other person just has to enter that code on their phone and they’re in the group, ready to help. It’s all explained step by step, with screenshots, in Care groups.
Can I care for more than one person?
Yes. You can belong to several groups at once (for example, one for your mother and another for a neighbour you also lend a hand to), and switch between them whenever you like. How many groups you can have at once depends on your plan.
How do I quickly add a medication or an appointment?
With the + button on the Today screen (the first tab, at the bottom). You have two ways: type the medication or appointment in by hand, or scan the prescription or referral slip directly with the camera and let the artificial intelligence fill in the details for you. The latter is the quickest and saves you typing. We explain it in detail in Routines.
How do I delete my account or export my data?
Both are done from Settings → Data & account. If you delete your account, it’s not instant: there’s a 30-day grace period during which you can cancel it in case you change your mind, and only afterwards is everything deleted for good. If what you want is to take a copy of your information with you, you can export it right there. You’ll find all the details, with the relevant warnings, in Account and privacy.
